Mixed fortunes for local sides

Castlecroft based club, AFC Wulfrunians slumped to their third defeat in a row away at high flying Coleshill Town in front of 75 supporters on Saturday. Wulfs fell behind after just 3 minutes and despite dominating play for long periods were two down before a reply from Demetri Brown shortly after half time set up an interesting second half.  Unfortunately for Wulfs, Coleshill restored their two goal cushion and Wulfs ‘keeper was called into action shortly before the final whistle, saving a penalty from Mykel Beckley. Wulfrunians’s current run is a million miles away from their start to the year which saw five victories out of Wulfrunians’s first six league games of 2015. Wulf’s last win came away at Lye Town in February, which was followed by a 1-1 draw at Walsall Wood. Defeats followed at home to Long Eaton United (0-5) and away at Kirby Muxloe (1-0). Wulfs, currently sitting in tenth position in the Midland Football League, are hoping that this Saturdays trip away to Coventry Sphinx will be more profitable, bringing a return to winning ways as the season nears its culmination.

Demetri Brown of Wulfs pushes forward in the 0-5 defeat against Long Eaton United.

Elsewhere, several local sides are battling it out in the West Midlands (Regional) League. Sporting Khalsa are looking odds on for promotion – six points clear with four games in hand of second place AFC Bridgnorth. Eighth place Wolverhampton Casuals suffered a local derby defeat at home to Wolverhampton Sporting Community on Saturday, a much needed win for Sporting as they attempt to haul themselves away from the relegation zone. Sporting goals came from Chaponda and Grey, putting the club in eighteenth position. Bilston Town slipped to their second defeat in a row, losing 0-4 to promotion chasing Gornal Athletic. Elsewhere, Willenhall Town lost 1-4 at home to Wellington and struggling Wednesfield, rooted to the bottom of the table, held Shawbury United to a 1-1 draw at home.
